Happy Valentine’s Day Fur-iends!! Boy do we wish we could celebrate with all of you! Whether if be at the dog park or snuggled up watching netflix, a puppy pawty Pawlentine’s day would be pretty amazing right now!
However, we know everyones got their own thing going on!! But in the mean time, we wanted to make sure you Dog Mom and Dog Dads were able to spoil you pups the right way!! Whether you decide to stop at the local pet store for treats and cookies or bake something yourself, your pup will love you no matter what! But here’s a easy recipe to get your pups heat Beet-ing for you this Valentine’s day!!
Heart Beet Delights! (Beet and Apple Bites)
Prep Time 30+ minutes
Bake Time 30 minutes
3-4 Cups Whole Wheat Flour (All Purpose Flour, Coconut Flour, etc. is also fine! Eyeball this. I started with 2.5, and adjusted as my dough needed. Depending on how big your beets are. Feel free to DM me!)
1/4 cup Ground Flax Seed
1 Tablespoon The Honest Kitchen Perfect Form Herbal Supplement (Great for Belly Digestion!!)
1/4 Cup Shredded Coconut
2 Cups Rolled Oats (These helped to dry your dough out too, and make it less sticky!!)
2 Small Apples Chopped Finely ( I used a Food Processor)
3 Small Beets Boiled, Peeled, and Pureed ( I used a Food Processor, I used 4 and it was a little much!!, so go with three!)
4 oz Unsweetened Apple Sauce
Pre Heat Oven to 375 Degrees
Mix Dry Ingredients: Flour, Flax Seeds, Perfect Form, Coconut, Oats, & Apples in a large bowl.
Mix Wet Ingredients: Egg, Apple Sauce, and Pureed Beets in smaller Bowl.
To Puree Beets: Boil with skin on. Ice Bath Beets to Cool. Peel Skin. Puree in Food Processor.
Combine Wet ingredients and Dry ingredients to Form dough. Dough will be Really sticky consistency.
Optional: If you have extra flour roll out dough and cut out shapes with cookies cutters. I bought the cutest Valentines day cutters at Target for $3.00 in the dollar section!! Otherwise, roll dough into balls and space two inches apart. Flatten each ball with a fork. I would say depending on dogs size and your treat size preference, determine the best size. I chose larger size and baked for longer.
For cookie cutter sized treats Bake for 30 minutes. For larger dough balls as pictured, approximately 40min bake time. Be mindful as you bake.
Store in Fridge for up to 7-14 days. Until eaten. Mako ate hers in about 3 weeks in fridge, and they were fine! (I have updated this from our last blog!)
Now for some play by play so you can kinda follow along and make sure you got the steps right. But then again, its a dog cookie, its doesn’t have to be perfect! If they are not picky eaters, they will love these!! Mako is obsessed! And the Color of these is alllll Natural! YAY!!
These are seriously the perfect Valentines Day cookie cutters for dogs because they are just the right size for any dog! For mako its Bite size and for smaller dogs, you can break the cookies up! I liked that they were not too big like normal cookies cutters usually are. I also found these in the dollar section at target for like $3.00! A freaking STEAL!!!
Now at this point because the dough is sticky you might need to roll out onto flour so your dough doesn’t stick! Also the dough is pretty red, so be careful of it dying your hands kinda pink . I didn’t have any issues but I do want to warn you, while your rolling out the dough! If you have issues, you can always make dough balls, and make what i think looks like hamburger meat!
